You can vote even if on parole or probation


New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has signed bill A5823 which restores voting rights to over 80,000 people on probation or parole for indictable criminal offenses in New Jersey.

The bill noted that “voting is both a fundamental right and a civic duty.

New Jersey Law however, still will prohibit voting by an individual serving a sentence of incarceration as a result of a conviction for indictable offense in New Jersey or another State or the United States. (Federal Court).

The new law amends N.J.S.A. 2C:51-3 and R.S. 19:4-1 to allow individuals on parole or probation to vote.
